2018 National Forum on the Human Right to Housing
Thank you to everyone who attended the 2018 National Forum on the Human Right to Housing in Washington, D.C.! Over 150 leaders and advocates from across the country attended strategy sessions focused on one goal: ending homelessness in America. And thanks to the financial support from sponsors and registration sales, we awarded over 20 travel scholarships to assist formerly and currently homeless people and grassroots advocates in attending. Annual LEAP Luncheon - Friday, June 8, 2018 

The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty held its annual luncheon with current and potential LEAP members in June, hosted by Simpson Thacher. It was a convening of fellow leaders of pro bono programs at major law firms and corporate legal departments, and attendees heard from dedicated pro bono attorneys working to end and prevent homelessness in America. 

A special thank you to those who participated in the program: Peter Thomas of Simpson Thacher, Bruce Rosenblum of The Carlyle Group, Karen Grisez of Fried Frank, Anna-Kay Richards of Latham & Watkins, Rustin Brown of Simpson Thacher, Joshua Handell of Sullivan & Cromwell, and our keynote, Peter Edelman, of Georgetown University Law Center.

2017 McKinney-Vento Awards 

The 19th Annual McKinney-Vento Awards, the Law Center recognized U.S. Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey and Vernon Davis of the NFL Redskins for their involvement and commitment in combating homelessness. We also be honored Juanita Rocha of Laredo, Texas, with the personal achievement award, and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP with the pro bono counsel award. 2016 LEAP Luncheon Honoring Former U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder

The 18th Annual McKinney-Vento Awards 

The McKinney-Vento Awards Ceremony was held on Thursday September 22, 2016 at The Liaison Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. 

The 2016 honorees were U.S. Senator Susan M. Collins, Washington Wizards' John Wall, Dechert LLP and Ms. Angela Spencer. Special appearances were made by award winning TV sports personality, corespondent and anchor for CBS News & CBS Sports Dana Jacobson, as well as Founder and Majority Owner of Monumental Sports Ted Leonsis. 

             
 

2016 LEAP Breakfast Hosted By The Bank of America Center

 
On June 8, 2016 the Law Center held its annual LEAP (Lawyers' Executive Advisory Partners) Breakfast at The Bank of America Center in Washington, D.C. Speakers included United States Department of Housing and Urban Development General Counsel, Helen Kanovsky; Law Center Executive Director, Maria Foscarinis; Assistant General Counsel with Bank of America, Larry Chattoo; Managing Director of The Carlyle Group, Bruce Rosenblum; Managing Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and LEAP Chair, Peter Thomas. 

Attendees learned about pro bono opportunities, explored corporate and law firm partnerships, connected with LEAP members and discussed the critical impact we can have together to prevent and end homelessness. 

                           
 


The 17th Annual McKinney-Vento Awards

The McKinney-Vento Awards Ceremony was held on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at The Liaison Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. 

The 2015 honorees were Executive Editor and Senior Writer, Mr. Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, Latham & Watkins LLP and Mr. Bobby Limon. 

                              



2015 LEAP Breakfast Hosted By The Bank of America Center

On April 23, 2015 the Law Center held its LEAP (Lawyers' Executive Advisory Partners) Breakfast at the Bank of America Center in Washington, D.C. Speakers included Law Center Executive Director, Maria Foscarinis; Bruce Rosenblum, Managing Director of the Carlyle Group; Angie Garcia-Lathrop, Community Affairs Executive at Bank of America; and Suzanne Turner, LEAP Chair as well as Partner and Pro Bono Chair of Dechert LLP.





National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness 

The 2015 National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness, hosted by the National Alliance to End Homelessness and in partnership with the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty, gave experts and advocates the opportunity to connect and share ideas. Senior Attorney at the Law Center, Eric Tars, presented "Getting the Lawyers Involved: How Legal Advocates Can Help End Youth Homelessness." Press Conference: Arnold Abbott as Main Speaker

On Thursday, December 18, 2015, the day before the National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day, the Law Center co-sponsored an event to raise awareness about the criminalization of food-sharing as it impacts those experiencing homelessness. Arnold Abbott, an advocate who has received national attention lately for his activism, was the event's main speaker.

16th Annual McKinney-Vento Awards - Sept. 30th, 2014

The 2014 Event Highlights
 

 
At the 2014 McKinney-Vento Awards, Steve Smith Sr., wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens, was awarded the Steward B. McKinney Award. Senator Patty Murray, Senior U.S. Senator from Washington, received the Bruce F. Vento Award. The Pro Bono Counsel Award was given to Sidley Austin LLP for its widely recognized pro bono and diversity programs. The Personal Achievement Award was received by Aleah Green who fought for the rights of herself and her son, Shiloh.
